UNITED WE STAND: NO TO BIYA’S REGIME HOPELESS PUBLIC RELATION’S STUNT AND EVASION OF TRUE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE ANGLOPHONE’S CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE.
IT IS IRONIC THAT THE BIYA’S REGIME WHICH CONSIDERS ANY FORMS OF FOREIGN HUMAN RIGHTS ADJUDICATION AS A BREACH OF ITS SOVEREIGN POWER IS NOW LEADING A PUBLIC RELATION CAMPAIGN IN EUROPE AND THE UNITED STATES IN ORDER TO EVADE TRUE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ITS STRAINED RELATIONSHIP WITH THE ANGLOPHONE SPEAKING CAMEROONIANS AND THE CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE AGAINST ITS REGIME.
SIMILARLY, THIS INCOHERENCE IS ANOTHER CYNICAL TACTIC BY THE GOVERNMENT TO INJECT CONFUSION TO THE ANGLOPHONE ISSUE. IN ITS PROPER CONTEXT, THE ANGLOPHONE PROBLEM IS AN INTERNAL ISSUE TRIGGERED BY THE REGIME DIVISIVE POLITICS IN CAMEROON.
THEREFORE, IT IS ONLY IN CAMEROON THAT THE DIALOGUE WITH ANGLOPHONE CAMEROONIANS REPRESENTED BY CIVIL SOCIETY MEMBERS AND LEADERS MUST BE HELD. THIS DIALOGUE IS PREDICATED ON THE KNOWLEDGE THAT CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE CANNOT BE SYSTEMATICALLY ASSIMILATED TO TERRORISM AS THE REGIME OF YAOUNDE DEMAGOGIC CLAIMS IN FUTILE ATTEMPTS TO SALVAGE ITS DISMINISHED STANCE IN FRONT OF THE PEOPLE.
President Paul BIYA, to dispatch dignitaries of your regime in the main western capitals IS more symptomatic of a crude maneuver of diversion and distraction of the public opinion that the state treasury meager resources cannot afford.
The peace and integrity of Cameroon requires the immediate release of all the militants and leaders who have been arrested during the Anglophone protest, and then the opening of a frank and constructive dialogue on an exit from the crisis.
As president Abraham Lincoln famously claimed: A House divided cannot stand. Therefore, a divided Cameroon cannot stand. Cameroon is the shared home of all Francophones and Anglophones of all ethnic groups, tribes, and religious affiliations. Only Dialogue – and not exclusionary divisive linguistic chauvinism and tribal politics – contributes to the preservation of our shared national identity and unity.
